“Exceptional” lawyers singled out in latest edition of The Legal 500

02 October 2020
L-R: Matthew Clayton, Paul Gordon and Nigel Whittaker

We are celebrating another standout performance as the 2021 edition of The Legal 500 – an independent guide to the best lawyers and firms nationwide – is released online.

Three of our lawyers have made the elite ‘leading lawyers’ list –  described by the directory as “a guide to outstanding lawyers nationwide” – dispute resolution partner Paul Gordon, employment law partner Matthew Clayton and commercial property partner Nigel Whittaker. The guide also tips two senior Willans lawyers as ‘rising stars’ (a term it defines as “standout performers in their own right”) – employment law senior associate Jenny Hawrot and dispute resolution senior associate Nick Southwell.

The firm is ranked for 11 specialisms in total, with our employment law team securing a space in the coveted top tier for the fourth year in a row, across the Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire region. Our corporate & commercial, commercial property and commercial litigation teams are also recommended within this area.

Recommended across the whole South West are the agriculture & estates, charities and not-for-profit, contentious trusts and probate, family law, private client, property litigation and intellectual property teams.

16 of our individual lawyers are recommended (some of whom are rated in multiple disciplines).

Managing partner Bridget Redmond said: “Against the backdrop of the coronavirus crisis, securing another fantastic set of Legal 500 results has given us all a boost and I am extremely proud of our team.

“We’re incredibly lucky to be able to attract and retain lawyers who are at the very top of their game, not just in terms of technical skill, but in their ability to deliver exceptional client care, too.

“Client feedback is a big contributing factor to these rankings and it’s great to see that we’re continuing to hit the mark when it comes to delivering first-class advice in an approachable, straight-talking way.”

The Legal 500 is an independent guide to the world’s best law firms. Its results are based on a combination of client feedback, assessment by experienced legal researchers and interviews.
