Latest wills, trusts & probate arrival takes team’s expertise up another level

04 September 2026

Our highly rated wills, trusts & probate team continues to go from strength to strength following the recent appointment of partner, Sam Thornton.

Our wills, trusts & probate department has this month welcomed partner, Sam Thornton, bringing with him over a decade of private client experience.

His appointment takes the team’s number of partners to five and reflects Willans’ continued growth, not only within the team but the firm as a whole.

Sam assists clients on a wide range of succession planning and taxation issues, aiming to protect family wealth across generations. He can help with wills and trusts, tax advice, family business planning, mental capacity issues, and estate administration.

Having been a full member of the Society for Trust and Estate Professionals (STEP) for almost ten years, he is recognised as an expert in his field.

Partner and head of department, Simon Cook, commented: “I’m really pleased to have Sam on board here at Willans. He is a great addition to our team and we are all looking forward to working with him.”

Our Legal 500-recommended wills, trusts & probate department maintains its reputation as an exceptional, trustworthy team of advisors with a “great local presence,” with the recent Chambers High Net Worth Guide this summer recognising the work they do as some of the best in Gloucestershire and the South West region.

Sam’s arrival takes the firm-wide partner count to 25, strengthening the firm’s offering of quality service and expertise to our clients, ensuring we continue to provide the best advice possible that sees us annually recognised by national independent legal guides across multiple work areas.
