Our employment law experts share know-how to boost Gloucestershire businesses
We have joined forces with the county’s branch of professional HR management body CIPD to share advice with Gloucestershire businesses at a series of local events.
The events, including a mock employment tribunal and a legal workshop, are designed to arm professionals and HR advisers with knowledge of best practice, an awareness of the pitfalls that modern employers face, and unique insights into the ever-changing landscape of UK employment law.
The first event will be a mock employment tribunal at the Pavilion, Hatherley Lane, Cheltenham on February 21, intended to offer local HR and employment professionals the experience of a life-like hearing considering a case of constructive dismissal and sex discrimination. Delegates will be provided with a trial bundle ahead of the event, will be able to ask questions to the barristers and panel (made up of Willans solicitors and Guildhall Chambers), and will have the opportunity to delve into the real issues involved in challenging and defending a case before a tribunal.
The second event will be a seminar to update local employers and HR professionals on the latest developments in employment law. The ‘CIPD and Willans’ employment law update’ half-day workshop will be held at Stonehouse Court Hotel in Stroud on 19 April. Our lawyers will provide a refresher of the latest legal changes and developments in case law, and there will be an opportunity to network with like-minded professionals.
Chris Hickey, Chair of Gloucestershire CIPD, said “The CIPD offer our members over 30 training and development events each year in Gloucestershire. It is very important to us that they are of the highest standard and reflect best practice. We are particularly pleased to be working with Willans as they are one of the leading legal practices in the county and the contribution they make to our programme is invaluable. The mock tribunal shared with Willans last year was one of our most popular events and was one of the highlights of our programme.”
Matthew Clayton, partner and head of our employment law team, said: “We are delighted to have teamed up with the CIPD to host these events. By pooling our knowledge and expertise we can help to arm local businesses with awareness of their obligations and invaluable insights into the inner workings of employment law.
“Many employers don’t know anything about how tribunals work until it’s too late, and they find themselves facing one. The mock employment tribunal is a golden opportunity for employers to arm themselves with knowledge of the risks they face when contesting claims”.
Matthew and his team are holding two further seminars later on this year, focusing on settlement agreements and the law surrounding recruitment. Early bird discounts are available. For more information, visit our events page.
Please note that student tickets to the mock tribunal are now fully booked, but a limited number of member and non-member tickets are still available. Visit https://www.cipd.co.uk/learn/branches/gloucestershire to view upcoming events and to secure your place.
