Willans becomes first law firm to join CheltenhamZero

04 February 2022

Willans has become the first law firm to join climate-change campaign CheltenhamZero. Celebrating 75 years in business this April, we’re committed to supporting the town’s shift to net zero emissions by the year 2030.

As an active member of the Gloucestershire community, we support several local initiatives every year, including charity fundraising, awards sponsorship and taking part in events such as the Cheltenham Literature Festival. Our dedicated green committee also help to champion our environmental practises and policies.

Hannah Wall, a lawyer in Willans’ wills, trusts & probate team, and an active member of its green committee said: “We’re very proud to become members of CheltenhamZero alongside many other businesses, charities and community groups. As a committee, we’re looking forward to making plans and starting projects that will have a significant impact on Cheltenham’s carbon emissions.”

Managing partner Bridget Redmond commented: “As a firm, we acknowledge the severity of the climate emergency and while we’ve made many eco-friendly improvements already, signing the CheltenhamZero pledge is our next step towards making a difference. Cheltenham, and the Gloucestershire community, is in our DNA and it’s only right that we back the campaign.”

Megan Wielding-Jones, climate action officer for the CheltenhamZero partnership said: “We’re working hard to engage as many businesses as possible on our quest to have Cheltenham reach Net Zero Carbon by 2030. So, we’re especially pleased to welcome Willans LLP, a company with an established reputation for protecting the environment, into the CheltenhamZero fold.”

In its most recent edition, The Legal 500 – an independent guide to the country’s best lawyers and law firms – recognised Willans as a leading firm in the South West, with 27 outstanding recommendations across 11 specialist departments. This includes the top-tier employment law team and new rankings for ‘leading individual’ Chris Wills and ‘rising star’ Emma Thompson.
