Charity race night marks final fundraising event in two-year partnership with Cheltenham Open Door

24 April 2026

Local businesses have gathered for an evening of fun, food and fundraising at Willans’ charity race night; its final event in support of Cheltenham Open Door.

The event, which welcomed local business contacts and friends from across Cheltenham and Gloucestershire, combined friendly competition with a shared commitment to supporting vulnerable members of our community. We would like to extend our thanks to all of those who attended the charity race night.

The charity had this message: “A huge thank you to everyone who took part in this wonderful fundraiser – and generally fun event! The guests at Cheltenham Open Door will benefit from the money raised from this evening – every pound donated goes directly to supporting the most vulnerable people in our community. Thank you Willans LLP solicitors for all your incredible support this year. Having such committed support from a local partner such as yourselves – who take our charity partnership seriously and genuinely want to make a difference – helps us enormously in our work. Thank you.”

Over the past two years, Willans has partnered with Cheltenham Open Door to raise funds, donate essential supplies and volunteer time to support the charity’s vital work. The organisation provides food, companionship and practical support to people experiencing poverty, isolation and hardship, acting as a lifeline for many in Cheltenham and beyond.

Our dedicated charity committee has been at the heart of the effort, organising a wide range of fundraising initiatives that have become staples of the Willans calendar. From business bowling events and bake-off competitions to festive carol concerts and donation drives, staff across the firm have played an active role in supporting the cause.

Throughout the partnership, these activities have not only raised valuable funds but also generated significant donations, including hundreds of kilograms of food and essential items for those in need. The committee has also encouraged hands-on volunteering, with our staff giving their time to help prepare meals and support the charity’s day-to-day operations.

The final race night event also marked the last fundraiser for partner Laura Stone in her role as charity committee co-chair. During her tenure, she has helped lead a programme of creative and impactful fundraising initiatives, strengthening the firm’s connection with the local community. Laura will be succeeded by partner in the real estate team, Emma Thompson.

Willans’ commitment to charitable giving is long-standing. As a firm rooted in Gloucestershire for more than 75 years, we have raised over £120,000 for local causes. Our partnership with Cheltenham Open Door has helped to raise awareness of the growing challenges faced by individuals experiencing hardship both in our firm and beyond. By working closely with the charity, the firm has been able to better understand these issues and play a meaningful role in supporting those affected.

Although the formal partnership with Cheltenham Open Door will shortly come to an end, the firm’s support for the charity and the wider community is set to continue with our next charity partner soon to be announced.
