Another great year for Willans in national legal guide

17 October 2017

We are delighted to have secured yet another strong set of rankings across 11 of our departments in this year’s edition of The Legal 500.

The prestigious national guide has praised our “knowledgeable, meticulous and extremely personable” lawyers, with two departments securing a place in the coveted top tier and one partner named in the ‘elite’ list of leading lawyers in the UK.

Our commercial litigation practice has won a place in the highest tier for the second year running, and is described as “able to compete with larger regional players”. Paul Gordon, who leads the team, has been noted for his “technical competence and pragmatism”.

A new top-tier accolade has been secured by our “adept” employment law team, headed by Matthew Clayton. Matthew is praised for providing “calm, measured and commercial advice.”

Nigel Whittaker is recognised once again as a ‘leading individual’ in the UK. He leads our commercial property team, which retains its second-tier ranking. The team has been rated by clients for its “rounded, commercial understanding” and “sensible, understandable advice”.

Our corporate and commercial team, which has particular expertise in the technology, telecoms and manufacturing sectors, has also maintained a second-tier ranking. Department head Paul Symes-Thompson is noted for providing “client-focused advice”.

Clients say that our wills, probate & trusts team delivers advice “in a professional and, where appropriate, simplistic way, removing any jargon or perceived prior knowledge.”

16 lawyers, many of whom ranked across several categories, are recommended in the guide. New entries include family lawyer Jonathan Eager and Nick Southwell of the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution team, who is described as “a safe pair of hands” with a “practical and commercial approach to litigation”.

Our managing partner, Bridget Redmond, commented: “This exceptional set of results is testament to the hard work and calibre of our lawyers. It is reflective of the firm’s strong commitment to client service and our ability to punch above our weight.

“I am very proud of all those named in this year’s edition and their departments”.
