A record 230 people from Gloucestershire businesses attended a stellar charity quiz organised by us.

The event held at National Star's grounds on Tuesday 19 May, saw teams of four testing their wits against each other. 52 teams from businesses such as The Growth Hub, Total, RBS, Randall & Payne, Paish Tooth, Crowe Clark Whitehill, Investec, The Cotswold Auction Company, Converge Technology, Brewin Dolphin, Evans Jones, Perry Bishop & Chambers, X-Press Legal Services and McCarthy Taylor took part in the fundraiser.

Ed Mawle from Brewin Dolphin, one of the teams who took part, described the evening as: “It was great fun. What a fantastic way to network with local professionals and then trying to beat them, all in aid of a good cause!”

James Grigg, partner and quiz master of Willans, said “Our entries hit a new record and the atmosphere was great. We believe this was one of the largest quiz nights to be held in the county and wish to thank everyone who supported the event. This surely demonstrates how close National Star is to people’s hearts.”

The successful quiz night raised over £4,600 for our charity of the year, National Star, an important local further education charity that works to improve the lives of young people with learning difficulties and disabilities from Gloucestershire and beyond. Auctioneer Lindsey Braune from The Cotswold Auction Company helped us raise close to £1,000 towards the evening’s figure through our charity auction.

“Every year National Star supports more than 1,600 people across the country,” said David Ellis, Chief Executive at National Star.

“We are thrilled with Willans' year-long support and by making us their charity of the year they have made a great difference to the young people we empower. Organising fundraisers like quiz nights are a great example of how corporate organisations can support local charities.”

The trophy was retained for another year by Cambray Property Management with MP Filtri runners-up and winning a tie breaker for third place was Hazlewoods. A full results table can be viewed here.

The quiz is one of our fundraising initiatives undertaken throughout the year for National Star. We are aiming to raise £10,000 by the end of May.
