Supporting women in business

14 June 2016

We are delighted to support the Gloucestershire Women of the Year Awards, and in particular to be supporting the award for ‘Mentor of the Year’.

These awards provide a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on the many talented and successful business women within our county.  As a business, Willans is fully committed to equality of opportunity within the workplace. There is still gender imbalance both within business and the professions. Awards ceremonies such as these, focusing on the achievements of fantastic women, can only help redress the imbalance for future generations.

We are especially delighted to be sponsoring the ‘Mentor of the Year’ category. Our firm has just appointed its second successive female managing partner. Bridget Redmond became managing partner on 1 June, having being joint managing partner with Margaret Austen for two years prior to that. Margaret had been managing partner since 2006.

Bridget Redmond, managing partner, says:

“Whilst there are more women than men entering the legal profession, women are still underrepresented at partner level across the UK. Mentors and role model can play a hugely important part in helping women progress in the workplace as they should. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the benefit of Margaret in a mentor role, helping me to fulfil my potential. I am also very proud to be part of a firm that is bucking the trend when it comes to appointing female partners.”

The awards ceremony takes place on 16 June and will be announced on South West Business later this week.
