Record year in Chambers’ legal rankings

01 November 2013

Independent UK legal directory Chambers has published its 2014 results placing us in tier one in the county for a number of specialisms.

We rank in the top tier for employment, family/matrimonial and our charity expertise, closely followed by litigation (tier two) and commercial property (tier three).

Chambers conducts a series of interviews to obtain feedback from clients and other firms’ solicitors. They say:

  • client service:The team is professional, open and creative.”
  • technical ability: Their knowledge base is really good; they’re always very helpful and just generally give very sound advice.”
  • market standing: “They are very good locally and have a good client base. Nice people.”

New entrants to the individual rankings for their work at Willans are the “very efficient and practical” Matthew Clayton, “highly knowledgeable” Nick Cox and “reliable and timely” Nigel Whittaker. The three partners were ranked the top tier in the region, as well as James Grigg, who is continually rated for his advice in family & divorce.

Commercial property partner Susie Wynne is recommended and one of her clients says: “Her knowledge is exceptional, she is good at dealing with strong characters and she’s approachable – it’s easy to have a conversation with her and you’ll get a straight answer.”

Head of company commercial Paul Symes-Thompson also features. One of his clients says: “I found Paul’s advice clear, constructive and very focused on what we were trying to achieve. Any decisions taken were always dealt with promptly and efficiently.”

Lastly, Jonathan Mills of our commercial property department is quoted as: “He’s concise, makes us aware of the important issues and doesn’t waste our time. He keeps things focused on what matters – where the risks are. We seem to be on the same wavelength all the time.”

Margaret Austen, managing partner of the firm, commented on the results:

“This is a fantastic achievement, especially after having such high commendations in Legal 500 last month.

“We work hard to provide our clients with first-class legal expertise and a personal service. To be endorsed by this independent national publication is the icing on the cake.”
