Take part in Will Aid during November

25 October 2012

Willans is aiding a number of well-known UK charities next month by participating in a nationally run scheme to raise money through the production of wills.

The scheme known as Will Aid, encourages individuals to seek the services of a participating solicitor to produce a basic will but instead of paying the fee to the lawyer it will be donated to charity.

The money raised from donations will be shared by nine UK charities: ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (Northern Ireland). Over £2.1m (including gift aid) was raised across the UK last year.

Head of our wills, probate and trust team Ruth Baker comments: “Willans is delighted to be involved in the Will Aid initiative.

“Making a will is one of the most important things you can do to protect your loved ones yet it is surprising that more than half of people who should have a will, have not made one. Most say they haven’t got around to it and yet it is crucial as it can take years to sort out someone’s estate if they die without a will.

“Although we are waiving our fees in November for wills made under the scheme, there is a suggested minimum donation of £40 to make a change to your will (via a codicil), £90 for a basic single will or £135 for a pair of basic mirror wills. However, you can of course donate as much as you wish.”

Our wills, probate and trust team are now taking bookings ahead of the month-long initiative which begins on 1 November.

To make an appointment please contact one of our wills, probate and trust lawyers on 01242 514000.
