Equality Act 2010 update

21 December 2012

For a long time statistics have shown that women are safer drivers than men and from this there have been products providing more favourable terms to women drivers, to include cheaper insurance.

Many of us, for example, will have seen ‘Sheila’s Wheels’ adverts, but these products will soon need to be reconsidered.

On 3 December 2012 the Equality Act 2010 (Amendment) Regulations 2012 (‘the Regulations’) were published.

The Regulations will come into force on 21 December 2012 and amend the Equality Act 2010 such that from this date providers of insurance and related financial services will not be allowed to discriminate on the grounds of sex in their prices and benefits offered to consumers.
