We are one of the participating solicitors in the annual Make-a-Will Month organised by Cobalt.
The scheme encourages local people to make or update a will with the donations going directly to the charity.
Our wills, probate and trust team is now taking bookings for Cobalt’s Make-a-Will Month, ahead of the month-long initiative which begins next month.
Running from Tuesday 1 to Wednesday 30 April, the scheme encourages people to make a basic will or update an existing will free of charge. People are instead invited to make a donation to the medical charity that helps with disease prevention, research, treatment and diagnosis.
Ruth Baker, our wills trust and probate associate, commented on the scheme:
“Having your will drawn up professionally can offer you peace of mind that everything is left in order after you die. An up-to-date will is essential to ensure those you love are provided for on your death, if you die without one, families can suffer deprivation, delay and distress.”
“Cobalt is a local charity that makes a real difference to the quality of life and the outcomes for those affected by cancer and other life-limiting conditions. We are avid supporters of their work and are pleased to be involved in this campaign for another year.”
Suggested donations are £40 for a codicil (amendment to an existing will), £90 for a basic single will or £130 for a pair of basic mirror wills (ie husband and wife).
Zena Giles of Cobalt said:
“Since implementing this campaign three years ago, we have had 246 people take part and received almost £21,000 in donations to Cobalt, with 57 legacy pledges of gifts equating to conservative legacy income of approx’ half a million pounds. I look forward to running our fourth Make-a-Will Month and to building on its success.”
