Willans supports Cobalt’s Make a Will Month

16 February 2015

In April, our wills, probate & trusts lawyers are giving their time for free to support Cobalt’s annual Make a Will Month.

In return for a donation* to Cobalt, those participating in the scheme can gain peace of mind by putting their affairs in order.

Based in Cheltenham, Cobalt scans over 24,000 patients each year from across the Three Counties and beyond. They raise money to improve medical imaging services, primarily cancer and dementia imaging services, and they make cutting edge diagnostic imaging equipment accessible to people when they need it most.

We are one of four law firms in Cheltenham helping with the scheme. Our team’s head of department, Simon Cook, strongly recommends that people prepare a will with a solicitor so that in the event of their death, they provide for the people that they want and need to support.

He says “Although there is absolutely no requirement to do so, some clients choose to leave a gift to charity in their will. This can not only give you profound satisfaction in knowing that your support will live on into the future, but it can also help reduce inheritance tax on your estate.”

Zena Giles, legacy officer at the charity says “Chances are that making a will or updating the one you already have is still on your ‘to do’ list. Make a Will Month is a great opportunity to tick this off. We have the support of several respected solicitors across the area so you will be able to make an appointment quite close to home or work and support a local charity, Cobalt.

“With an up-to-date will in place, your wishes known and affairs in order, you can get on with enjoying life with peace of mind. It’s great to know too, that you are helping Cobalt. The donations we receive from this year’s will month will be put towards our important services for local people with cancer, dementia and other life-limiting conditions. Those you love will be your first priority of course, but should you consider going that step further to include Cobalt in your will, you could touch the lives of thousands of local people in years to come.”

If you would like to take part in the scheme please contact us on 01242 514000.

*Suggested minimum donation of £95 for a single will, £140 for a couple’s mirror will or £40 for a codicil.
