Schools and colleges

The education world is going through a period of rapid change fuelled by government policy, increased competition, cost pressures and market globalisation. Members of our team have represented schools across the maintained, academy/free school and independent sectors, as well as FE colleges and HE bodies. So they are ideally placed to understand the ‘big picture’ and to assist you in fulfilling your strategic aims in the wider context.

For many years we have been bringing our specialist knowledge of charity law, governance and regulation to advise independent fee-paying schools. In recent years we have also been fortunate to be able to put that knowledge and experience to the benefit of academies negotiating the path through to conversion, and facing life in the brave new ‘post-conversion’ world.

Our experience of the education sector gives us an understanding of the challenges and opportunities which school and college leadership brings. Our team members offer education clients specialist, partner-led support in the following areas:

  • charity law and, where relevant, its interaction with company legislation
  • legal structures and governance
  • disability issues, admissions, bullying, exclusions and discipline
  • employment law and HR
  • property and land asset financing
  • commercial agreements and consumer credit issues
  • data protection and IT
